Evolving Faith

Every new season comes with change, and I am learning to embrace that. I am learning how to adjust and adapt. I am learning that instead of living a steady life, I must be willing to live an ever-evolving life, because that is what walking by faith is all about.

The Lord calls us to move as His spirit moves…to be willing to trust His instructions at any moment. And, this is what He is teaching me right now. He is showing me how to walk in newness, and He’s reminding me that I can bring my apprehensions to Him, because He has a plan for it all. He has a plan for the things that I’ve been worried about…an answer for every question that I have. And, He intends to show me the way.

You light a lamp for me. The Lord, my God, lights up my darkness. (Psalms 18:28 NLT)

God arms me with strength, and he makes my way perfect. (Psalms 18:32 NLT)

This is what the Lord says— your Redeemer, the Holy One of Israel: “I am the Lord your God, who teaches you what is good for you and leads you along the paths you should follow. (Isaiah 48:17 NLT)

God has a plan for the new seasons of our lives.

As followers of Christ, we know this, but I want us to really understand it. God doesn’t just plan the large details of our lives; He doesn’t just plan when we’ll see the breakthrough. He works in all the tiniest of details; He plans how we will walk into our breakthrough. This means that He’s concerned about everything that we’ll need: the provision, the protection, the wisdom. But, it’s deeper than that. Our Father isn’t just concerned about carrying out His plans, He’s concerned about us. He wants us to have peace in the midst of our transitions. He wants us to be encouraged…to walk with joy in the midst of our transitions.

Don’t worry about anything; instead, pray about everything. Tell God what you need, and thank him for all he has done. Then you will experience God’s peace, which exceeds anything we can understand. His peace will guard your hearts and minds as you live in Christ Jesus. (Philippians 4:6‭-‬7 NLT)

I pray that God, the source of hope, will fill you completely with joy and peace because you trust in him. Then you will overflow with confident hope through the power of the Holy Spirit. (Romans 15:13 NLT)

God is always the source.

Our careers aren’t the source. Our relationships aren’t the source. Our routines aren’t the source. I have to say this because when change happens, we tend to lean on everything but God. We look to our careers to hold us up. We look to our relationships and routines to hold us up. But, the problem is that God is the only sure and consistent thing in our lives. He is the only one that we can truly depend on. And, He is the only one that can sustain us as we evolve in faith.

Yet for us there is but one God, the Father, who is the source of all things… (1 Corinthians 8:6 AMP)

When we remain connected to the source, we don’t have to fear the future. We don’t have to worry about how we will do what He’s called us to do, because His Spirit will guide us and enable us to evolve with our callings.

As our walk evolves, our routines and habits must evolve.

And this can be tough. Honestly, it’s been my biggest struggle. Just when I thought I had my routine down, everything changed. It’s frustrating, but I’m learning to take those frustrations to my Father.

“Lord, what do you want me to do in this season?”

“Lord, how do you want me to fulfill my calling in this season?”

Trust in the Lord with all your heart; do not depend on your own understanding. Seek his will in all you do, and he will show you which path to take. (Proverbs 3:5‭-‬6 NLT)

We have to understand who our God is. He isn’t stagnant as we are. He’s always moving and shifting. He’s always doing something new. So, when we’re in a season of change, we must assume that He has a new plan…a new way that He’s designed just for us.

For I am about to do something new. See, I have already begun! Do you not see it? I will make a pathway through the wilderness. I will create rivers in the dry wasteland. (Isaiah 43:19 NLT)

Our obedience is provided for.

It’s easy to look at our new situations and assume that we no longer have time for the things we used to have time for. Maybe we’ve reasoned that we don’t have time to cultivate our relationships. Maybe we’ve reasoned that we don’t have time to exercise and eat healthy. Maybe we’ve reasoned that we don’t have the extra time to minister to others. Whatever it is, if the Lord gave it to us in one season, He wants us to remain faithful to it in this season as well.

He wants us to evolve in our faith.

I am prayerfully in the process of evolving. I am laying down every bit of uncomfortableness that I have. I’m laying down my preferences; I’m laying down my will, so that I can experience His.

Where are you on your journey?

Are you in a place of change? Are you in a place where you’ve allowed that change to prevent you from obeying God? If so, I want you to know that I’m right there with you. And I want you to know that there is another way. He has a plan for you to fulfill your calling right where you are. Allow Him to make a way in the wilderness. Allow Him to create rivers in the dry wasteland. He will show you possibilities that you’ve never seen before. He will enable you to walk in purpose regardless of your circumstances. Seek His will today.

Prayer

Heavenly Father, thank you for the plan that you have for my life. Thank you for thinking of the large details, and thank you for thinking of the little things…for ensuring that I have everything I need. I love you Jesus, and I desire your will for my life. So today, I am choosing you. I am choosing your will over my own. I am choosing your plan over my own. And I trust that as I seek your face, you will enable me to evolve into the person that you want me to be. I am grateful for your love, Father. In Jesus name, amen.
