God of the Impossible

My husband’s phone call brought me to tears. We had been believing for a breakthrough in this area of our lives for almost twenty years. Time after time we heard the word no. Time after time we felt the heartache of doors being closed in our face…opportunities withheld from us. But, we never gave up. We continued to believe in God. We continued to trust that He would move us in the direction of His promise. No matter what the facts were…no matter how long it took. And, God did the impossible…

You see…according to the facts, we were disqualified from our promise. We didn’t have what our promise required, and the worst part about it is that there was nothing that we could do about it. Education couldn’t fix our problem. Money couldn’t fix our problem. Talent couldn’t fix our problem. The power of God is the only thing that could have done this.

Some things are impossible, but nothing is impossible for God.

Jesus looked at them intently and said, “Humanly speaking, it is impossible. But with God everything is possible.” (‭‭Matthew‬ ‭19:26‬ ‭NLT‬‬)

We all have a story to tell…impossible situations that we face. I’m not sure what yours is. Maybe your impossible situation has to do with your health…maybe you are facing an incurable diagnosis. Maybe your impossible situation has to do with a seemingly irreparable relationship. Or maybe it has to do with a mountain that you’re facing as you walk towards purpose. Whatever that situation is, it may seem impossible, but nothing is impossible for God.

I stood there and prayed boldly before the Father,

“Lord, I know what the situation is. I know that we aren’t qualified, and I know that this is impossible, but nothing is impossible for you. You are bigger than the facts. You are bigger than our situation. You are sovereign, and you are in control. If this is within your will, go before us, Father.  Show us your strength and glory. We believe that you can work a miracle in our situation.”

So then, since we have a great High Priest who has entered heaven, Jesus the Son of God, let us hold firmly to what we believe. This High Priest of ours understands our weaknesses, for he faced all of the same testings we do, yet he did not sin. So let us come boldly to the throne of our gracious God. There we will receive his mercy, and we will find grace to help us when we need it most. ‭‭(Hebrews‬ ‭4:14‭-‬16‬ ‭NLT)

We don’t have to beg God. We don’t have to tip-toe as we pray to Him. According to Hebrews chapter 4, we can go boldly to the throne of God. We can proclaim His promises, and we can tell Him what we need…knowing that we will receive His mercy…knowing that we will find His grace.

The grace of God is what makes the impossible possible.

And He said to me, “My grace is sufficient for you, for My strength is made perfect in weakness.” Therefore most gladly I will rather boast in my infirmities, that the power of Christ may rest upon me. (‭‭II Corinthians‬ ‭12:9‬ ‭NKJV)‬‬

We had a weakness…one that kept us from our promise for many years, but then God showed up and changed everything. Our circumstances no longer mattered. Our qualifications no longer mattered. His grace was all that we needed.

God’s grace makes up the difference.

His grace is the difference between you being sick and you being healed. His grace is the difference between your family being broken and it being restored. His grace is the difference between you not getting the job and you getting the call back.

You don’t need to have perfect qualifications…you need His power…you need His grace.

“Write this letter to the angel of the church in Philadelphia. This is the message from the one who is holy and true, the one who has the key of David. What he opens, no one can close; and what he closes, no one can open: (‭‭Revelation‬ ‭3:7‬ ‭NLT‬‬)

God holds the keys to your future.

Once my husband and I understood this, we gained so much freedom…

Your future is not in your doctor’s hands. Your future is not in your boss’s hands. Your future is not in your banker or anyone else’s hands, because God holds all the keys. He is the one that controls when a door is opened. He is the one that controls when a door is closed.

So…if a door closes, it’s because God has something better in store for you. And, if you’re facing a door that won’t open…it’s because God has something better in store for you.

And we know that all things work together for good to those who love God, to those who are the called according to His purpose. (‭‭Romans‬ ‭8:28‬ ‭NKJV‬‬

God is moving you towards the purpose that He has for you. Even when the door gets closed…even when the next door won’t open. He is still good…and he has good things planned for you.

Nothing is too hard for God.

It doesn’t matter what the mountain looks like. It doesn’t matter how many noes you hear. It doesn’t matter that you are unqualified, undeserving or constantly overlooked. Our God is a God of the impossible. In our weakness He reveals His strength…so allow Him to show His strength in your life today. Trust Him… in the middle of your circumstance. Wait…no matter how long it takes. And watch…and He reveals His glory through your life.

Prayer

Heavenly Father, thank you for your mercy, and thank you for your never-ending grace. Today, I have been reminded of just how great you are. You are bigger than my circumstances. You are bigger than my problems. And you are bigger than every mountain that I face. So Father, I am making the decision to put my life in your hands. I will trust you in the middle of the uncertainty. I will trust you in the middle of the heartache. And I will trust you when my situation looks impossible…because you are the God of the impossible. There is nothing too hard for you, Father. You are always faithful…Your word is forever true….so I will not give up…I will wait on you. I love you, Father. In Jesus’ name, amen.
