He Never Fails

Then the Lord said to me, “You have seen well, for I am [actively] watching over My word to fulfill it.” (‭‭Jeremiah‬ ‭1:12‬ ‭AMP)

I love this version of Jeremiah 1:12….the Lord is active. He is watching over His word, and He is moving to ensure that all of His plans come to pass. If you are in a season of faith…then this is good news for you.

You can believe God because He actively works to perform His word.

If He spoke a word over you…He is actively working to perform it. If He gave you a promise…He is actively working to perform it. Through every circumstance, good or bad, God is actively moving you closer to the place that He spoke over you.

And we know that God causes everything to work together for the good of those who love God and are called according to his purpose for them. (‭‭Romans‬ ‭8:28‬ ‭NLT‬‬)

In the book of Genesis, we see evidence of God watching over his word…

Joseph, son of Jacob, was given a word from God…that he would one day rule over his family.

One night Joseph had a dream, and when he told his brothers about it, they hated him more than ever. “Listen to this dream,” he said. “We were out in the field, tying up bundles of grain. Suddenly my bundle stood up, and your bundles all gathered around and bowed low before mine!” His brothers responded, “So you think you will be our king, do you? Do you actually think you will reign over us?” And they hated him all the more because of his dreams and the way he talked about them. Soon Joseph had another dream, and again he told his brothers about it. “Listen, I have had another dream,” he said. “The sun, moon, and eleven stars bowed low before me!” (‭‭Genesis‬ ‭37:5-‬9‬ ‭NLT‬‬)

It’s an understatement to say that Joseph’s brothers were upset. They were furious…so furious that they contemplated killing him before deciding to sell him to a group of Ishmaelite traders.

Judah said to his brothers, “What will we gain by killing our brother? We’d have to cover up the crime. Instead of hurting him, let’s sell him to those Ishmaelite traders. After all, he is our brother—our own flesh and blood!” And his brothers agreed. So when the Ishmaelites, who were Midianite traders, came by, Joseph’s brothers pulled him out of the cistern and sold him to them for twenty pieces of silver. And the traders took him to Egypt. (‭‭Genesis‬ ‭37:26‭-‬28‬ ‭NLT)‬‬

Joseph became a slave although he had a word from God that he would one day be a ruler. But the story doesn’t end there. If we continue reading into chapter 29, we see that Joseph went from slave to prisoner. Instead of getting closer and closer to purpose, he moved further and further away from the promise that God had given him.

Now, I have to admit that Joseph’s story is absolutely my favorite story in the Old Testament. Why? Because it paints the perfect picture of how God causes all things to work together for the good of those that love Him and are called according to His purpose.

After a decade or so or waiting, Joseph finally experienced the promise of God..

So Pharaoh asked his officials, “Can we find anyone else like this man so obviously filled with the spirit of God?” Then Pharaoh said to Joseph, “Since God has revealed the meaning of the dreams to you, clearly no one else is as intelligent or wise as you are. You will be in charge of my court, and all my people will take orders from you. Only I, sitting on my throne, will have a rank higher than yours.” (‭‭Genesis‬ ‭41:38‭-‬40‬ ‭NLT‬‬)

As the story continues we see that Joseph was reunited with his father and brothers, and although he was hurt by the things of the past, he understood that it all worked together for the purpose that God had given him.

Then his brothers came and threw themselves down before Joseph. “Look, we are your slaves!” they said. But Joseph replied, “Don’t be afraid of me. Am I God, that I can punish you? You intended to harm me, but God intended it all for good. He brought me to this position so I could save the lives of many people. No, don’t be afraid. I will continue to take care of you and your children.” So he reassured them by speaking kindly to them. (‭‭Genesis‬ ‭50:18‭-‬21‬ ‭NLT‬‬)

The word of the Lord never fails.

“...For the word of God will never fail.” (‭‭Luke‬ ‭1:37‬ ‭NLT‬‬)

The word of the Lord was fulfilled in Joseph’s life, but we have so many other examples of the Lord’s faithfulness in scripture. For instance…

The word of the Lord was fulfilled when Sarah gave birth to a son in her old age.

The word of the Lord was fulfilled when the Israelites entered into the promised land.

The word of the Lord was fulfilled when David became Israel's second king.

And, the word of the Lord was fulfilled when the King of Kings was born to a virgin in the city of Bethlehem.

We can hold onto the word of the Lord because He never fails.

He watched over his word back then, and He watches over his word right now.

If you’ve been following my blog these last few months, you know that my mother’s health declined towards the end of last year, and although we have seen the miracles of God in regards to her healing…He is not done yet.

What I haven’t shared is that before my mother fell ill, I received a word from God. He told me that I would be leaving my full-time job to care for her. Now…this word came as an answer to a prayer. I prayed that I would be able to be there for her more. But, the only problem is how? My husband and I have three children. How could I just quit my job to care for my mother?

Well, after months of praying…after fasting and believing…I can say that He never fails!

He has made a way where there seemed to be no way. Out of nowhere my husband's income increased, and I have an opportunity to earn an even greater income, all while being there to care for my mother.

He will make a way.

For I am about to do something new. See, I have already begun! Do you not see it? I will make a pathway through the wilderness. I will create rivers in the dry wasteland. (‭‭Isaiah‬ ‭43:19‬ ‭NLT‬‬)

I have seen God move mountains over and over again in my life, but He never ceases to amaze me. He is a miracle worker, a way maker, a provider, a faithful God. If He spoke a word over you, believe it, pray over it, and wait on it. Because remember…He’s watching over His word to perform it. He’s making sure that every situation leads you closer to the promise that He has given you. And He’s making sure that you are prepared and provided for along the way. So, you don’t have to wonder. You don’t have to worry. All you have to do is believe. All you have to do is obey. And then, wait on Him. He will do the rest. He won’t let you down. He never fails.

Prayer

Heavenly Father, thank you for the amazing promise that you have given me.  Today, I have been reminded of your faithfulness. I have been reminded that no matter what my situation looks like, your word is true, and you watch over it to make sure that it comes to pass in my life. So today, I am making the decision to hold onto the promise that you have spoken over me. I will trust you, even when my situation seems impossible. I will believe you, even when I don’t understand. I will wait for you, no matter how long it takes, because I know that you won’t let me down, Father. I love you. In Jesus’ name, amen.
